About

My name is Tyler Afflerbach, I am about to graduate from Baylor University with a BFA in Theatre Design with an emphasis in stage management. In my time at Baylor, I have also had the opportunity to do some work in lighting design and carpentry along with stage managing.
My love of theatre started in kindergarten, my teacher loved theatre and did some herself, including the first play I ever saw, Steel Magnolias. At the end of my kindergarten year we did a play to show off our reading skills, they ran out of boys and I had to be Rapunzel’s prince, I didn’t care I loved it. After that I, like any good theatre kid, forced my cousins into doing plays anytime we were together. With the exception of our yearly Christmas plays in elementary school, I didn’t get to be on stage again until middle school when I was introduced to the world on OAP (One Act Play). It didn’t take too much longer to realize that I prefered being backstage. I loved getting to make things happen backstage and make sure the show got up and ran smoothly. I did theatre all through high school and senior year, with the help of some friends, choose Baylor theatre as my new home. It was a great choice.
I have been able to ASM and SM since my freshman year. We have weekly workshops and I was able to stage manage and light design for around a dozen workshop scenes. I have done main stage work on our shows, Macbeth, The Skin of Our Teeth, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and finally Born Yesterday. I have been ALD for two main stage productions, Almost Maine & The 39 Steps. For my past two years at Baylor I have also been working in the scene shop as a carpenter and welder, which are skill I have learned to love! I plan on continuing to work in theatre after graduation, hopefully in stage management with some carpentry work in between.
